On Friday, March 8, 2019, Payge Whitesel and Abby Shewan made their way to the State Bowling Tournament in Columbus with her bowling team. The Lexington girls’ bowling team participated in the tournament and finished overall in ninth place.

The tournament began with sixteen different teams from all over Ohio. Each team participated in three games and three bakers in a qualifying round in order to go on to the championship rounds. The championship rounds consisted of an eight-team bracket where the team had to do the best three out of five baker games. A baker is when five people on the team participate in one game and each of the five players bowls one frame of a game, the first teammate bowls the first and sixth, the second teammate bowls the second and seventh, the third teammate bowls the third and eighth, the fourth teammate bowls the ninth and fifth, and the fifth teammate bowls the fifth and tenth.

Unfortunately, the team placed ninth overall by 101 pins and did not proceed to the championship round. Payge says, “Even though we did not make it to the championship rounds it was still an amazing experience and it was a great way to end my senior year.” This was the teams’ first time ever making it to state and despite the fact that they did not make it to the championship rounds, the team had an amazing experience. The Lexington girls bowling team had an amazing opportunity and enjoyed the chance to get to play in this tournament and Payge was able to end her senior year with a wonderful experience.

We look forward to hearing about Abby’s experiences as she plays in the years to come.
