SPOILER-FREE

Creed II, above being just a boxing movie, is a slow-burning drama about family, sacrifice, and what makes us fight; with incredibly moving performances from Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, and the rest of the main cast.

Creed II seems to have it all: a great director, an incredible score, and heart-racing, well choreographed, and weighted fight scenes. But it also does not fail to bring heart-wrenching drama and emotional stakes that ask important questions about why we fight.

This installment in the Rocky franchise not only carries all the weight of its predecessors but also the uplifting and inspiring feelings that come with them as well. You find yourself caring for the characters as people thanks to the raw and well-written characters, brought to life by fantastic actors.

Michael B. Jordan nails the nature of Adonis Creed and of course, Sylvester feels like such a welcomed and loved addition as Rocky. Tessa Thompson brings her best as well with a great performance as Creed’s lover and best friend, Bianca.

Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) returns with the newly added Viktor Drago, his mountainous son. The real-life fighter, Florian Munteanu, portrays stone cold hatred and power while also being able to show surprising depth to the character. The threat feels more real than ever before, with each punch in the fight feeling heavy and costly. Creed feels severely and dangerously outmatched and that is what makes this conflict so interesting.

Creed II offers comedy, drama, and action in such a fulfilling and well-executed way that it does more than make you watch a movie, it makes you feel it; which is the true sign of a great movie.
